We are a thriving society of 175 members, most of whom are active in painting or sculpture. Established in 1964, our aim is to inform, promote and encourage Art in and around Alresford.

We hold monthly meetings from September to June and four outdoor painting days at venues around Hampshire in the summer. The meetings are varied in content with demonstrators in all mediums; speakers on various aspects of art, and members meetings involving group activities, such as life drawing. We hold at least four workshops in the winter months with tutors in watercolour, oil, acrylic, pastel or specialised subjects.

The Society runs daytime and evening classes, which are open to all, to help budding artists improve their painting techniques.

The Society holds an Annual Exhibition in the Alresford Community Centre every summer that is open to all members regardless of ability.

Our email address is artsociety@alresford.org and we appreciate it if members who are on the net could let us have their email address so that we can send all relevant information out in that way.

LIBRARY

The Society has a library of books for members to borrow which is available at most meetings. We would like members who have books that they no longer use to donate them to the Society for other members to enjoy.

SURGERY EXHIBITION

The Society has a continuous exhibition in the Alresford Surgery, by kind permission of the doctors, which is changed on a regular basis. Any member can volunteer a painting as there is no selection policy. Whilst members may sell paintings from time to time, the prime aim of the exhibition is to brighten the environment of visiting patients, whilst also promoting the Society and the skills of its members.
